ATLANTA – Today, Team Herschel released the following statements after VoteVets, a Raphael Warnock and Chuck Schumer allied liberal dark money organization, released a flagrantly false and defamatory ad attacking Herschel’s decades-long record of support for veterans.
The ad, which claims that Herschel “lied to veterans”, provides no evidence to back up those outrageous claims. Specifically, the allegations in the ad are derived directly from a May 21, 2022, Associated Press article which, in reality, affirmatively states that “there’s no indication [Herschel Walker] was directly involved in any wrongdoing”.
Team Herschel’s legal counsel sent a letter to several television stations highlighting the many falsehoods and outrageous claims and demanding the ad be taken down immediately.
“VoteVets is a front organization for Chuck Schumer’s left-wing, dark money network. Their attack ads against Herchel Walker are in bad faith and a shameful attempt to cover Raphael Warnock’s horrible record on veterans,” said spokesperson Mallory Bount. “Unlike Warnock, Herschel Walker is a fierce supporter of those who have defended our country. Raphael Warnock has done more for Joe Biden than he has for America’s veterans. Warnock voted against billions in care programs and facilities to help veterans. And it was Warnock who believes ‘you cannot serve God in the military.’ When Georgia’s veterans go to the polls this fall, they will know that Herschel Walker has their backs – while their junior Senator is only looking out for Joe Biden and the Democrat party.”
Retired Colonel Michael Dane Steele said, “We’ve all seen the vicious attack ads against Herschel Walker. I’m a veteran with 29 years of service; service that includes Somalia, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Iraq. I know soldiers and I know Herschel. I’ve known him for 42 years. You need to know that the accusations that are being made are nothing but bald-faced lies and gutter politics, made by his opponents. The truth is that over the years Herschel has visited thousands and thousands of our young soldiers to encourage and support them. He’s done that at military installations here, in the United States, and at installations around the world. I always know when he’s visited a new installation because I’m inundated with emails, texts, and phone calls from excited troops, who want to express their sincere gratitude that Herschel will take the opportunity to spend time with them. I’m not voting for Herschel, because he’s my friend. I’m voting for him because I trust him. Herschel is a Christian. Herschel is a husband. He’s a father. And he’s a small business owner. Herschel Walker has our values, and he has our work ethic. And he loves his country, the way that we love our country. This election is about trust. And if you love Georgia, if you love the United States, vote for Herschel and let’s send him to Washington to work on our behalf.”
