Herschel Walker for Senate Weekly Column – 8.5

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, August 5, 2022

On Monday, I was proud to launch the Veterans for Herschel Coalition, highlighting my work with the veteran community and emphasizing that I will always have their backs in Washington. For the past week, I’ve been able to spend time with heroic veterans across Georgia.

I’m always asked the question of why veterans are so important to me. My answer to that question is always: the reason we’re the greatest country in the world is because of our military and the veterans who served to defend our freedoms.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve traveled to nearly 500 military bases around the world. Through these experiences, I’ve seen a lot of young men and women do some amazing things for this country and sacrifice quite literally everything for everyone back home.

This past week, I focused on listening to Georgia veterans and learning about ways I can specifically help them when I get into the U.S. Senate. I wanted to see and hear what our veterans have to say because I think people in Washington do all the talking, but they don’t take the time to listen.

We discussed issues like mental health, the broken system at the Department of Veterans Affairs, inflation, and Washington insiders like Raphael Warnock who are more interested in promoting a woke agenda and supporting Joe Biden than focusing on military readiness and helping our veterans.

The truth is, leaders in Washington are not listening to our veterans and members of the military. I heard from several veterans that the Warnock-Biden agenda has led to lower recruitment rates and lowered morale. If we discourage our military, we’re going to lose our strength. If we lose our strength, I can promise you we’ll have no peace.

These are young men and women who have given their lives up to give us the freedoms and liberties we have in the greatest country in the world.

I’ve had the privilege of living the American Dream, but it’s only because of our veterans and our men and women in service today. They are people who I’ve always looked up to and admire. As your Senator, I will always stand up for Georgia’s veterans.
