Herschel to Receive Distinguished Horatio Alger Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, it was announced that Herschel Walker will receive the prestigious 2022 Horatio Alger Award at the annual award ceremony in the nation’s capital. Walker is receiving this honor because of his lifetime of hard work and his ability to overcome adversity.

“I have had the privilege of attending several Horatio Alger events in the past and have witnessed the immense impact the organization has on American youth,” said Herschel Walker. “I made sure to always study and take school seriously growing up. Because of that, my scholarships provided me options in choosing my educational route. The Association’s mission in ensuring students have access to an education is a critical one, and it means a great deal to me to become a part of this special organization.”

“From a young age, Mr. Walker has shown an ability to set long-term goals and put in the work to achieve them,” said Terrence J. Giroux, executive director, Horatio Alger Association. “In addition to the success he’s achieved in both his athletic and business careers, he remains committed to giving back to others. We’re pleased to induct him as a lifetime Member who is living proof for our Scholars that they can do whatever they set their minds to.”

“Whether on the football field, in the classroom, at the Olympics, in business, or in his role as spokesman for the Patriot Support Program, Herschel’s work ethic, commitment to excellence, and love for America has inspired millions and made him a household name,” said Campaign Manager Scott Paradise. “Now, he is fighting to take back Georgia’s U.S. Senate seat in November to represent the people of the Peach State and their values.”

Since 1947, this award is dedicated to leaders who through hard work, honesty, and determination have overcome great obstacles in their lives. Herschel’s openness about his mental health journey, success in small business, and devotion to U.S. military programs around the world have earned him this high honor.
